Lion King 3d Imax Blue-ray , Disney had some success with turning The Nightmare Before Christmas into a 3D film in 2006 using the original puppets as reference material, but when they turned their attention to The Lion King, a whole different process was required. With live action films getting the 3D conversion treatment, it figures that studios would start doing the same for their animated properties ( Lion King 3d Imax Blue-ray )
A few months back, IGN was invited to Disney's Animation Research Library in Glendale, Calif., where all of the original artwork for its animated films is stored. There, we spoke with Lion King director Rob Minkoff and animators Tony Bancroft (who was responsible for drawing the character of Pumbaa) and Mark Henn (the lead animator for Simba) about the new 3D version of the film. (We also had a chance to speak with Robert Neuman, the man in charge of converting the film, but we'll save that interview for another article, closer to the release date.)
The Lion King will be released on 3D Blu-ray on Oct. 4. For more about what's included in the special features, check out our original announcement. You can also catch the 3D version in theaters beginning this Friday, Sept. 16.

Because there are different choices that could be made creatively when you do 3D. So we were involved, I would say, conceptually from the very beginning.

So you kept tabs on the progress
Minkoff: We came and did reviews at a number of points along the process to see what they'd been doing, to look at new scenes and talk about them. So we sort of checked in at every point in the process. We weren't obviously directly involved in the conversion itself, but more I suppose in the ....
