The story has spawned a whole new round of Apple TV rumors in the past couple weeks, and the latest comes from Nick Bilton of The New York Times, who claims the set is on track for a 2013 release, and that instead of a remote, you’ll control it using Siri.
Bilton writes: Apple engineers and designers, drived by Mr. Jobs, have been struggling for years to find a new interface for the TV set. One of the biggest snags, according to people with knowledge of the project , has been replacing the television set’s annoying device remote control. Apple would give people a way to choose the content on their television that is as easy as choosing the content on their iPod, iPhone or iPad…
Having used Siri for two weeks now, users have no doubt that it would be an cool addition to the television set. Telling your TV what to do, rather than pressing one of the 50 buttons on its remote, would just be fantastic.
Apple famously takes products that aren’t working so well and revolutionizes them. The iPod changed the face of personal music players, the iPhone changed the face of smartphones, and the iPad changed the face of tablets. However, TV is already doing pretty well for itself, and other than eradicating the remote in favor of Siri…..
